Newport Reads 2017

Winner of the 2009 Pacific Northwest Booksellers' Association Award, The Art of Racing in the Rain is told from the point of view of Enzo, a race car-obsessed dog who believes he will be reincarnated as a human. A heart-wrenching but deeply funny and ultimately uplifting story of family, love, loyalty, and hope, The Art of Racing in the Rain is a beautifully crafted and captivating look at the wonders and absurdities of human life...as only a dog could tell it.

Garth Stein

Garth Stein moved to Seattle in 2001 and became involved in high performance driving, receiving his racing license with the Sports Car Club of America, and winning the points championship in the Northwest Region Spec Miata class in 2004. He left racing after a serious crash - while racing in the rain.

Stein's other novels are A Sudden Light, Raven Stole the Moon, and How Evan Broke His Head and Other Secrets.

The Art of Racing in the Rain has sold more than 4 million copies in 35 languages, and spent more than three years on the New York Times bestseller list.  It has inspired a Young Reader edition as well as a children’s picture book adaptation (2014), a stage adaptation by Book-It Repertory Theatre in Seattle, and is currently in development with Universal Studios for a major motion picture.

Copies of The Art of Racing in the Rain will be available for purchase and autographing.
