Library Events
Oregon Book Award nominees Lidia Yuknavitch, Elena Passarello, and Omar El Akkad will read from and discuss their books. Copies will be available for purchase and signing after the event.
Lidia Yuknavitch, author of The Book of Joan
Lidia Yuknavitch is the author of the novels The Book of Joan, The Small Backs of Children, and Dora: A Headcase, the memoir The Chronology of Water, and The Misfit’s Manifesto. She has received awards from Literary Arts, PNBA, and Poets and Writers, and she founded the Corporeal Writing Collaboratives. The Book of Joan is a 2018 Oregon Book Award finalist in fiction.
Omar El Akkad, author of American War
Omar El Akkad is an author and journalist. He has covered some of the biggest stories of the past decade, including the Arab Spring revolutions, the Black Lives Matter movement and the repercussions of the war on terror. He is the recipient of Canada’s National Newspaper Award for investigative reporting. His debut novel, American War, won the Pacific Northwest Booksellers Award and has been translated into a dozen languages. It is a 2018 Oregon Book Award finalist in fiction.
Elena Passarello, author of Animals Strike Curious Poses
Elena Passarello is the author of two essay collections and the recipient of a Whiting Award for nonfiction. She lives in Corvallis with her partner, playwright David Turkel, and teaches in the MFA program at Oregon State University. Her latest book, Animals Strike Curious Poses, is a 2018 Oregon Book Award finalist in creative nonfiction.
