Writing the College Essay
A collage essay uses vivid images and quick cuts to tell stories in artfully arranged fragments, rather than in one specific narrative line. Inspired by visual art and film, collage storytelling is an inspiring way to supercharge your writing, and it’s surprisingly easy! Grab your writer’s notebook and join essayist Elena Passarello in this very hands-on, get-out-of-your-chairs workshop, which will outline the basics of reading, responding to, and–most importantly–writing your own nonfiction collages.
Registration is free but space is limited. Pre-registration required. Contact Susan Moore at susan@literary-arts.org, or 503-227-2583 extention 107 to register.
Elena Passarello is the author of two essay collections and the recipient of a Whiting Award for nonfiction. She lives in Corvallis with her partner, playwright David Turkel, and teaches in the MFA program at Oregon State University. Her latest book, Animals Strike Curious Poses, is a 2018 Oregon Book Award finalist in creative nonfiction.
