The Newport City Council adopted Ordinance No. 2017, effective August 17, 2011, which amended the Geologic Hazards Overlay section of the Newport Zoning Ordinance. Persons who plan to perform earthwork or construction within geologic hazard areas are required to obtain a Geologic Permit to ensure that the site is suitable for the proposed development. Below are links to the Geologic Hazards maps, the amended code, application materials, guidance documents, and a list of engineering geologists that are familiar with this portion of the Oregon coast. Also, a link is provided to the Department of Geology and Mineral Industry (DOGAMI) report upon which the boundaries of the coastal hazard areas are based.
