Elections

Regular municipal elections are held every two years on the first Tuesday in November of even-numbered years. Three Councilors and a Mayor are elected at each election. Council terms are four years, and the Mayoral term is two years. The last municipal election was held in November 2008, and the next one will be held in November 2010.

The City Charter contains information regarding qualifications of candidates. It is available by clicking on the following link: Newport City Charter.

The city recorder is the elections officer for the city. The recorder's office will prepare candidate packets that are generally available in June prior to the November elections. For information on municipal elections, contact the City Recorder at 541.574.0613 or by Email
