Rebecca Storyweaver Hosts a Talent Show

Rebecca StoryweaverRebecca Storyweaver hosts a Talent Show at Literacy Park, so bring your talent to share with the crowd! Join us for a craft in the McEntee Meeting Room after the program! Rebecca has been telling stories all her life. She began by telling stories to her family which her five older siblings told their mom were lies. She wasn’t lying, she was preparing for her lifelong vocation. In 1978 she volunteered at Toledo Public Library as a storytime reader. This led to her telling stories using a felt board or a loop of string or folded paper. After a few years, with the help of Toledo Library Director Blythe Jorgensen, she began seeking out training in the field of storytelling. In 1986 Newport Public Library added a children’s services provider to the staff and Rebecca was hired. For the next 32 years she joyfully told stories to thousands of Newport’s citizens and to people all over Oregon. In 2004 she was selected as an Oracle by the National Storytelling Association. Her retirement in 2018 didn’t end her storytelling. Now she tells stories to her grandchildren, her nieces and nephews and their children and their children’s children.
