Investigations
The Oregon Fire Code requires all fires to be subject to some level of investigation. NFD has several certified fire investigators and even more associate members of the Lincoln County Fire Investigation Team. In addition to working with fire investigators from neighboring departments in the county, Newport Fire works closely with the Oregon State Fire Marshal’s office and the Oregon State Police arson unit. Fire Investigation efforts begin before the fire is put out, and the scene is physically investigated within hours of the fire. The main thrust of any investigation is to find the cause and origin of the fire.
