Wildland/Conflagration
Each Fire Season Newport Fire Department gears up to help out when the Oregon State Fire Marshal and the Governor ask for help from fire departments throughout the state with large scale wildland-urban interface fires. The governor enacts the Conflagration Act calling for help from each of the counties with specialized teams and fire apparatus. Strike Teams and Task Forces are put together upon request to be sent anywhere in the state to assist in life and property protection and fire suppression efforts. Teams can be deployed for up to 2 weeks at a time. Newport usually sends Type 1 (structural engine) and Type 6 (brush/wildland) engines. Teaming up with departments from all over the county we are usually called upon a couple times annually. It is a great experience for the crews that go out.
